The State of Print
June 26 - July 31
Pulp or pixels – whatever the medium; human desire to create, connect and communicate is unceasing.
The interactive nature of the exhibition should interest children, and spark interesting conversations about the roles of print and paper versus screens of various kinds. Today, the screen has become the more prolific medium for information exchange. Instead of flicking pages, we spend more time scrolling.
The printed page has always been a portal into another world. For some people, there is nothing quite like opening a new book or magazine, feeling its weight, breathing in the inky smell off its pages, and running fingertips over the paper.
The space’s vibrant black-and-pink backdrop is perfect for Instagram photos and TikTok videos. An Instagram filter, specially designed for the exhibition, brings up illustrations of typography tools – such as typewriters – that pop and float on phone screens – one of many interactive features that draw attention to paper as a medium.
Various stations explore the functions and forms of print media through local and international projects, specially curated books and independent magazines, and collaborations between local design studios, local bookstores and international design companies.
