Summer Wars

March 22 - March 23

Summer Wars

Part of the NUS Arts Festival 2019, this anime film is one for kids interested in code, numbers and virtual worlds.

From acclaimed director Mamoru Hosoda of Wolf Children (2102) and The Girl who Leapt Through Time (2006), this film is about mathematically gifted high-schooler Kenji and what happens when his code creates havoc in virtual and real worlds.

Math whiz Kenji Koiso spends his summer holidays working to maintain the virtual city of OZ. When he accompanies his senior Natsuki Shinohara to her hometown, he is bewildered to be introduced as her fiancé. During his stay, Kenji receives a mysterious e-mail containing an intriguing mathematical riddle. When he finally solves it, Kenji finds himself thrust into a cyberwar of unimaginable proportions. Will he survive this battle of a lifetime and win Natsuki’s heart?

There will be a short talk on the creation of virtual worlds before the screening, @ 7.30 p.m. on March 22nd.
