Stop, and smell the roses …
June 16 - July 14
The Rose Romance Floral Display takes centre stage, with blooms trailing down trellises and arches, flourishing amidst magnificent ruins reminiscent of castles of yore … even surrounding a tower where a Juliet on her balcony is probably being wooed by Romeo in the courtyard below.
Over 40 varieties of roses in myriad hues of red, pink, orange, yellow and white are on glorious display – not your garden variety roses, but a spectacular medley of hybrids rarely seen in this part of the world.
Princess Anne is a fragrant, deep pink bloom; Lady of Shalott (which bears the name of the classic Tennyson poem) produces stunning salmon-pink flowers and the surprising Angèle Pernet offers a whimsical and unusual colour gradation.
