Orchestral Manoeuvres : See Sound. Feel Sound. Be Sound brings together 32 composers and contemporary artists from around the world in an exhibition where a viewer tunes in, listens deeply, feels the vibrations and creates his or her own personal soundtrack.
The exhibition presents :
- art objects that make sound
- musical instruments ‘played’ differently
- the absence of sound
- humans as sound making objects
These works of leading contemporary sound artists encourage us to listen more closely to the spaces we live in or visit, to imagine what music can be and how we might create it ourselves.
Some artists in the exhibition explore silence; singers who don’t sing and a choir of people you can’t see. There is a piano that plays itself and instruments never seen or heard before. Viewers are encouraged to try their hand at composing, perhaps taking inspiration from famous composers who suggest music should be thrown around before attempting to play it.
Whatever the journey, music will never sound the same again.
