Opened in June 2003.
Driverless, it is the world's first fully automated heavy rail line.
It is 20 kilometres long, covering 16 stations.
Took 6 years to complete at a cost S$ 5 billion.
All train cars have 2 closed circuit TV's and 4.3 cm wider seats.
The EZ-Link fare gates use contact-less smart-card technology.
Tactile flooring paths have been laid from fare gates to lifts, and lifts to platform doors, to guide the visually impaired.
Almost all stations can double up as bomb shelters and house decontamination chambers (to clean up victims of chemical attacks).
Energy-saving escalators speed up to 0.75m per second within four seconds when someone steps onto them, and slow down to 0.375m per second when idling.
